I am so happy to announce that I have created FREE small brush alphabet practice sheets for you to use! The great thing about this practice sheet is it has directional arrows to help guide you and teach you how to properly create each letter.
One of the best ways to improve and sharpen your lettering skills is to practice proper strokes and do it consistently. When I first started learning about hand lettering I somehow bypassed the importance of working on strokes and letter forms. Looking back I wish I had learned some of the basic strokes and did more practicing to improve my form. I now make sure I work on my strokes weekly to improve my hand lettering skills.
Feel free to use this for your personal use and make as many copies as you need. Just make sure to copy on smooth paper so you don’t fray the tip of your small brush pen. Here are some tools I recommend for using for brush lettering practice:
Printer Paper:
HP Premium 32lb. Printer Paper
This HP paper is a smooth paper that will help preserve the life of your brush pens.
Alternative to Premium paper:
Tracing Paper is also great if you only have regular printer paper. You can print the above printable on regular printer paper and then place tracing paper over it to letter on. Tracing paper is so nice and smooth. You can find some online through Amazon or at any craft store.
Brush Pen Recommendation:
The small brush pens I recommend and use are the Tombow Fudenosuke Brush pens. They are great especially for beginners to brush lettering. The larger brushes are more difficult to control when you’re first learning brush lettering, so I wholeheartedly recommend the smaller brush pens.
DIGITAL OPTION:
If you prefer to practice on your iPad using your Apple pencil and the Procreate App simply use the JPEG version. Simply upload it to Procreate and you can start practicing!
